Hi everyone,
I’m debating whether to use activated carbon in my aquarium filter, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences.
On one hand, I’ve heard that activated carbon is great for removing impurities like chemicals, odors, and discoloration from the water, which seems like a big plus. But on the other hand, some say it’s unnecessary in a well-maintained tank and can remove beneficial trace elements.
Here are a few questions I have:
- Do you currently use activated carbon in your filter? Why or why not?
- Are there any noticeable benefits or downsides you’ve experienced?
- Are benificial bacteries killed by Activated carbon in your aquarium filter?
- Would you recommend it for specific situations (e.g., after medicating the tank or dealing with tannins)?
For context, I do regular water changes and water parameter tests, so I’m wondering if activated carbon would make a meaningful difference.
Thanks in advance for sharing your advice!
Cheers,
Matt
